In the project we ended up with an autism only subset of children with sensory processing disorder. Also, it turns out that children with cerebral palsy misdiagnosis also are known to have issues with sensory processing. When we investigated the history of the children who responded in the Autism spectrum, it turned out that they had a history of ear infections between two and three years of age, and were put on large doses of antibiotics. We posit that this killed off the good bacteria that may have been necessary to absorb micronutrients from their food supply.
Either way, for 4 out of 5 children, including those on the autism spectrum, this helps. Read this story for how we figured it out….
